Notarization of Hong Kong Documents for Use in Domestic China is called “China-Attesting” and is provided by China entrusted notaries appointed by the Ministry of Justice of China. They are called China-Appointed Attesting Officers (CAAO).

Due to the differences between the legal systems of mainland China and Hong Kong, especially the various official documents issued by the Hong Kong government, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and identity cards; company documents such as company establishment certificates, business registration certificates (CI, BR), etc., are different from those issued in the mainland. In order to prevent counterfeiting and fakes, Hong Kong documents must be notarized and transferred by China entrusted notaries appointed by the Ministry of Justice of China when they are used in the mainland. Therefore, “Hong Kong documents, for use in the mainland” need to be notarized.
